Check out the Inside Track, Monday at 9pm, to hear the late Jack Rose's Luck in the Valley. The finger-picked guitar album explores traditional American, Middle Eastern, and South Asian styles.

Wednesday's Global Music Show will give you a taste of music and cultural knowledge new to your Western ears. 9pm.

This Thursday, Joel W. explores a broad range of music in a special Black History Month edition of the Thursday Night Feature. He'll feature the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) and one of the its best known groups, the Art Ensemble of Chicago. A rainbow of genres will be represented. 9 pm.

Then, Friday, on the Inside Track, listen through the Flower-Corsano Duo's self-released album The Chocolate Cities. Drums, melodica and Japan banjo get featured on this psychedelic album, compiled from the duo's live recordings. 9 pm.

Elusive Southern band Shit Horse rides all over the Backyard Barbecue. From Odessa Records: "So who is Shit Horse? Well, they prefer to remain a mystery, but we know them as Jessee, Ronny, Red and Danny Magic... Ron Liberti of Pipe said he loved the band and compared them to Malcolm Mooney-era Can." It all starts Sunday at 8 pm.

Tune in this Wednesday night at 9 pm to hear... drum roll ... The winning entries in the Locally Produced Digital Music Showcase! David V. hosts the one-hour special, a fine conclusion to the contest curated by WXYC, in partnership with the CHAT festival for Digital Arts and Humanities. Good luck!

This week on the Thursday Night Feature, veteran DJ and soul archivist Jason P. brings three hours of Carolina Soul. Starts at 9 pm.

Then, Friday, on the Inside Track, hear Real Life Is No Cool, a collaborative effort from Christabelle Sandoo and producer Hans-Peter Lindstrom, in its entirety. The luscious, dancehall-ready pop-funk album starts spinning at 9 pm.

The Backyard Barbecue welcomes Colby Ramsay of UNC Vinyl Records' My Boy Rascal for an interview and a solo set. Sunday at 8 pm.

DJ Fest!

"The Art and Culture of the DJ" is a two-day festival held on UNC's campus February 18 and 19 that will explore the impact of the DJ on the music and culture of our time. The festival will kick off with a dance party on the evening of February 18 in Gerrard Hall with music by current and former WXYC DJs. On February 19 there will be a series of lectures by internationally-known scholars in Hyde Hall starting at 1 p.m. The final event is a concert featuring the world premiere of Circulo, a work for turntables and Latin ensemble by Raul Yanez and DJ Radar; the concert will begin at 8 p.m. in Gerrard Hall the evening of February 19. All events are FREE and open to the public. The festival is sponsored by the Department of Music and the Institute for the Arts and Humanities.
